Cortez Masto, Colleagues Raise the Alarm about Use of Taxpayer Dollars to Hold People in El Salvadoran Prison
Nov. 20, 2025

“We write to you expressing profound concern over the findings of the recently published report titled ‘You Have Arrived in Hell: Torture and Other Abuses Against Venezuelans in El Salvador’s Mega Prison,’” wrote the members. “This meticulously researched report, published on November 12 by Human Rights Watch and the El Salvador-based Cristosal exposes the systematic pattern of abuse and torture experienced by the 252 Venezuelan nationals the Trump Administration sent to El Salvador’s notorious Centro de Confinamiento del Terrorismo (CECOT) between March and April of 2025. It also finds that the Administration failed to respect the principle of non-refoulment and questions the Administration’s reliance on El Salvador’s assurances that it would abide by the UN Convention Against Torture.”

Foster Leads Bipartisan Effort to Demand Fair Treatment for Ukrainians Impacted by USCIS Delays
Nov. 13, 2025

“By forcing unreasonable fees and legal uncertainty onto these families, which will likely result in many being forced to return to their war-torn homes, we are abdicating our responsibility to support our allies in their fight for autonomy and democracy. For these reasons, we urge you to apply the fee only to individuals who submitted their applications on or after July 4, 2025, so that all families, including those participating in U4U, are fairly adjudicated under the rules that were in place when they applied.”

Wyden, Espaillat and 38 Members of Congress Urge Democratic Governors to Block ICE from Accessing Americans' DMV Data
Nov. 12, 2025

In the year prior to October 1, 2025, Nlets facilitated over 290 million queries for Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) data, 292,114 of which were from ICE and 605,116 were from Homeland Security Investigations, a law enforcement agency within the Department of Homeland Security, according to Nlets. These statistics represent federal and out-of-state requests for data because law enforcement agencies do not generally access DMV data about residents of their own states through Nlets.

“This commonsense step will improve public safety and guard against Trump officials using your state’s data for unjustified, politicized actions, while still allowing continued collaboration on serious crimes,” the lawmakers wrote.

Rep. Kelly joins over 65 Colleagues in Demanding Answers on ICE Racial Profiling
Sept. 10, 2025

“We have been concerned by recent statements and actions undertaken by DHS that seem to indicate that the Department is unlawfully using race as a basis for conducting immigration enforcement operations,” wrote the lawmakers. “A strategy of immigration enforcement that singles out law-abiding people solely because of their race is at odds with our constitution’s commitment to both equality and freedom from unreasonable searches.”

Durbin, Duckworth Join Warren To Lead Investigation Into Trump Administration's Betrayal Of Immigrant Service Members, Veterans, And Military Families
Sept. 4, 2025

"U.S. Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL), Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), along with Representatives Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA-06), Maggie Goodlander (D-NH-02), and Delia Ramirez (D-IL-03), opened a new investigation into the Trump Administration’s arrest, detention, and deportation of non-citizen service members, Veterans, and military families. The lawmakers wrote to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Defense (DOD) demanding an explanation for these practices, which go against decades of precedent and long-standing DHS policy indicating that military service offers protection from immigration enforcement against military service members, Veterans, and their immediate family members."

Aug. 15, 2025

"In their letter to President Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi, the Members write, “President Trump does not have the authority to declare English as the national language. The issue of a national language has been debated in Congress, and the legislative branch has not made such an establishment… The memo attempts to roll back decades of progress and weakens the legal framework to combat national origin discrimination by treating language access as an unnecessary privilege rather than a civil right."

Goldman, Warren, Padilla, Kelly and Correa Demand Investigations into ICE's Detention of U.S. Citizens
Aug. 8, 2025

“ICE policy makes clear that, “[a]s a matter of law, ICE cannot assert its civil immigration enforcement authority to arrest and/or detain a U.S. citizen. However, in recent high-profile cases, ICE has erroneously arrested U.S. citizens, at times appearing to use violent physical force. ICE has also reportedly detained citizens in immigration detention facilities, sometimes for over a week. ICE has even deported U.S. citizens: in multiple cases, ICE has deported U.S. citizen children along with their undocumented parents, reportedly against the families’ wishes,” the Members wrote.

Brownley, Chu Lead Call for Oversight and Accountability for Mistreatment of Individuals with Disabilities in ICE Custody
Aug. 5, 2025

“Reports of ICE and its contractors failing to provide necessary accommodations, neglecting medical needs, and violating disability rights laws are deeply alarming,” wrote the lawmakers. “It is unacceptable that detainees with disabilities are routinely denied access to medications, assistive devices, and means of communication until emergencies arise. This pattern of neglect demands immediate federal oversight, accountability, and enforcement of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and DHS’s own regulations.”

July 2, 2025

“The effects of President Trump’s discriminatory travel ban will be devastating. In the last year alone over 126,000 visas have been issued to nationals from just the twelve countries on the fully restricted list. These are individuals who are looking to come to the United States to reunite with family, support our economy, or otherwise enrich our country in innumerable ways,” wrote the members.

June 27, 2025

“President Trump’s actions once again disgrace the founding principles of our nation and enshrine cruelty into our immigration system,” the Members continue. “Additionally, this travel ban will harm our economy by depriving the United States of workers in key fields experiencing labor shortages like medicine and agriculture and further devastating our domestic tourism industry which is already expected to decline by $12.5 billion in 2025.”

Cortez Masto, Colleagues Press Administration for Answers on Cancellation of Protected Status for Afghans Living in U.S.
June 4, 2025

“We write with deep concern about the Department of Homeland Security’s termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Afghanistan, which is scheduled to take effect on July 14, 2025. This decision is devastating for resettled Afghan nationals in the United States who have fled widespread violence, economic instability, challenging humanitarian conditions, and human rights abuses in their home country. Many of these Afghans fearlessly served as strong allies to the United States military during the war in Afghanistan, and we cannot blatantly disregard their service,” the lawmakers began.

May 1, 2025

“This is not about national security. It is about using immigration enforcement as a weapon to stifle political dissent, restrict due process, and enforce an exclusionary and nativist vision of America that runs counter to everything our institutions of higher learning stand for,” wrote the Members. “Across the country, students are being picked up – in some cases by masked immigration agents in unmarked cars – and being held in detention facilities with no warning and limited information as to why they are being deported.”

May 1, 2025

"Trump and Secretary Noem have abused the Department of Homeland Security and its agencies, including Customs and Border Patrol, to terrorize our communities, profile Latinos, and arrest U.S. citizens. While Republicans have proven unwilling or incapable of conducting oversight, the Administration continues to violate our rights and undermine due process," said Congresswoman Ramirez. "We deserve answers, and we will use every tool at our disposal to get them."

Congressman Glenn Ivey Leads House Colleagues in Demanding Return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia
April 21, 2025

Today, Congressman Glenn Ivey (MD-04) sent a letter to President Donald Trump demanding the immediate return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was wrongfully deported to El Salvador, to the United States, despite having been granted protection from deportation by a United States immigration court. Despite the Trump Administration admitting Mr. Abrego Garcia’s removal was a mistake and the Supreme Court ordering the facilitation of his return, the Trump Administration has indicated repeatedly it does not intend to comply with the Supreme Court’s order and bring Mr. Abrego Garcia back to the United States. Mr. Abrego Garcia is a Maryland resident, living in Maryland’s Fourth Congressional District with his U.S. citizen wife and family.
