Rep. Gregory W. Meeks Urges Department of Homeland Security to Grant Temporary Protected Status to Jamaica After Hurricane Melissa
Nov. 6, 2025

“For Jamaicans living in America, TPS would provide them with the safety and stability needed following the horrific storm that devastated the island leaving families displaced and homes destroyed,” Rep. Meeks said. “Now is the time for the United States to stand with Jamaica. Granting TPS is not only an act of compassion but of solidarity – ensuring that those already here are not sent back into dangerous and unstable conditions.”

The Members wrote in the letter:

“Jamaica is currently confronting widespread devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa. The storm has left countless residents without homes, electricity, clean water, or access to medical care. Roads and vital infrastructure have been destroyed, communities are struggling to recover, and the Government of Jamaica faces immense challenges in restoring essential services. Tens of thousands have been displaced, and recovery is expected to take months – if not years. Under these conditions, it would be unsafe and inhumane to require Jamaican nationals currently residing in the United States to return home.”

Congresswoman Nikema Williams Denounces Attempt to Undermine Open, Fair, and Accessible Elections
Oct. 21, 2025

“This petition must also be understood in the context of today’s political climate. AFL is not a neutral actor; it is a partisan organization founded by senior officials from the Trump administration, including Stephen Miller, who architected some of the most draconian immigration policies of the last decade. The petition is part of a broader campaign, exemplified by Executive Order 14248 and the so-called SAVE Act, to manufacture disinformation about non-citizen voting as a pretext for shrinking the electorate.”

“Adopting this petition would not only disenfranchise millions of eligible voters but would also weaponize the EAC, an institution dedicated to strengthening election access and integrity, into a partisan tool for voter suppression.”

Reps. Kelly, Barragan, Clarke Lead Letter to RFK Jr., Demanding Answers on Health Data Given to ICE
July 30, 2025

“The role of HHS should be to protect the health of all those living in this country and provide essential human services, not to be a watchdog for DHS or act as immigration enforcement,” the Members stated in the letter. “For decades, the U.S. has ensured emergency medical care to anyone in need, regardless of immigration status. The use of Medicaid data for immigration enforcement weaponizes health care as a surveillance mechanism for DHS.”

Jayapal Leads 142 Members in Demanding Answers Regarding the Revocation of Student Visas
May 1, 2025

“This is not about national security. It is about using immigration enforcement as a weapon to stifle political dissent, restrict due process, and enforce an exclusionary and nativist vision of America that runs counter to everything our institutions of higher learning stand for,” wrote the Members. “Across the country, students are being picked up – in some cases by masked immigration agents in unmarked cars – and being held in detention facilities with no warning and limited information as to why they are being deported.”

Congressman Glenn Ivey Leads House Colleagues in Demanding Return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia
April 21, 2025

Today, Congressman Glenn Ivey (MD-04) sent a letter to President Donald Trump demanding the immediate return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was wrongfully deported to El Salvador, to the United States, despite having been granted protection from deportation by a United States immigration court. Despite the Trump Administration admitting Mr. Abrego Garcia’s removal was a mistake and the Supreme Court ordering the facilitation of his return, the Trump Administration has indicated repeatedly it does not intend to comply with the Supreme Court’s order and bring Mr. Abrego Garcia back to the United States. Mr. Abrego Garcia is a Maryland resident, living in Maryland’s Fourth Congressional District with his U.S. citizen wife and family.
