Wyden, Espaillat and 38 Members of Congress Urge Democratic Governors to Block ICE from Accessing Americans' DMV Data
Nov. 12, 2025

In the year prior to October 1, 2025, Nlets facilitated over 290 million queries for Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) data, 292,114 of which were from ICE and 605,116 were from Homeland Security Investigations, a law enforcement agency within the Department of Homeland Security, according to Nlets. These statistics represent federal and out-of-state requests for data because law enforcement agencies do not generally access DMV data about residents of their own states through Nlets.

“This commonsense step will improve public safety and guard against Trump officials using your state’s data for unjustified, politicized actions, while still allowing continued collaboration on serious crimes,” the lawmakers wrote.

Rep. Gregory W. Meeks Urges Department of Homeland Security to Grant Temporary Protected Status to Jamaica After Hurricane Melissa
Nov. 6, 2025

“For Jamaicans living in America, TPS would provide them with the safety and stability needed following the horrific storm that devastated the island leaving families displaced and homes destroyed,” Rep. Meeks said. “Now is the time for the United States to stand with Jamaica. Granting TPS is not only an act of compassion but of solidarity – ensuring that those already here are not sent back into dangerous and unstable conditions.”

The Members wrote in the letter:

“Jamaica is currently confronting widespread devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa. The storm has left countless residents without homes, electricity, clean water, or access to medical care. Roads and vital infrastructure have been destroyed, communities are struggling to recover, and the Government of Jamaica faces immense challenges in restoring essential services. Tens of thousands have been displaced, and recovery is expected to take months – if not years. Under these conditions, it would be unsafe and inhumane to require Jamaican nationals currently residing in the United States to return home.”

Pingree, King Lead 70+ Members in Bicameral Push to Reinstate Automatic Work Authorization Extensions
Nov. 5, 2025

"We write to express deep concern regarding USCIS’s recently announced interim final rule ending the automatic extension of employment authorization documents (EADs) for individuals who have filed timely renewal applications. This change, to be implemented while significant processing backlogs persist, will have devastating consequences for workers, families, and employers across the country."

Congresswoman Simon Statement on Bay Area Immigration Enforcement Surge
Oct. 23, 2025

“The militarization of our cities and terrorization of immigrant communities does nothing to advance public safety. From D.C. to Chicago to LA, it is abundantly clear that the Trump Administration’s goal is to sow fear, purposefully create situations of uncertainty and chaos, and needlessly traumatize immigrant communities.

Rep. Chu Leads 31 Members in Demanding Accountability Following Death of 39-Year-Old Ismael Ayala-Uribe in ICE Custody
Oct. 16, 2025

“Mr. Ayala-Uribe’s untimely death while in ICE custody was a preventable tragedy. His pleas for help were ignored by those responsible for overseeing his care until it was far too late. This was an inexcusable failure to uphold even the most basic standards of medical care for people in federal custody,” said Rep. Chu. “But what happened to Mr. Ayala-Uribe is sadly not an isolated incident. It reflects a horrific, well-documented pattern of neglect at Adelanto, where detainees have been forced to endure conditions so dangerous and inhumane that they have led to multiple deaths. That’s why we are demanding full transparency and accountability to ensure tragedies like this never happen again.”

Jayapal, Raskin Oppose Policy Adding Red Tape to Visa Process
Sept. 30, 2025

“DHS’s proposal to constrain the timeframe of admission for students, exchange visitors, and members of the media to a fixed period of time is the latest in a series of unwarranted policy changes that have undermined our role as a leader in international education, and harmed universities, businesses, and U.S. students that depend on foreign student enrollment,” wrote the Members. “We cannot condone the erosion of our platforms of learning, culture, and expression—particularly when there is no basis to do so.”

Rep. Kelly joins over 65 Colleagues in Demanding Answers on ICE Racial Profiling
Sept. 10, 2025

“We have been concerned by recent statements and actions undertaken by DHS that seem to indicate that the Department is unlawfully using race as a basis for conducting immigration enforcement operations,” wrote the lawmakers. “A strategy of immigration enforcement that singles out law-abiding people solely because of their race is at odds with our constitution’s commitment to both equality and freedom from unreasonable searches.”

Reps. Chu, Meng, Vargas, and Colleagues Raise Alarm and Demand Answers on Trump Administration’s Language Access Roll Backs
Aug. 15, 2025

"In their letter to President Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi, the Members write, “President Trump does not have the authority to declare English as the national language. The issue of a national language has been debated in Congress, and the legislative branch has not made such an establishment… The memo attempts to roll back decades of progress and weakens the legal framework to combat national origin discrimination by treating language access as an unnecessary privilege rather than a civil right."

Goldman, Warren, Padilla, Kelly and Correa Demand Investigations into ICE's Detention of U.S. Citizens
Aug. 8, 2025

“ICE policy makes clear that, “[a]s a matter of law, ICE cannot assert its civil immigration enforcement authority to arrest and/or detain a U.S. citizen. However, in recent high-profile cases, ICE has erroneously arrested U.S. citizens, at times appearing to use violent physical force. ICE has also reportedly detained citizens in immigration detention facilities, sometimes for over a week. ICE has even deported U.S. citizens: in multiple cases, ICE has deported U.S. citizen children along with their undocumented parents, reportedly against the families’ wishes,” the Members wrote.

Cortez Masto, Colleagues Press Administration on Conflicting Orders Fueling Uncertainty for Afghans Living in U.S.
July 15, 2025

“As you are aware, many Afghan allies that received TPS stood shoulder to shoulder with American servicemembers for nearly two decades during the war in Afghanistan. Many fled to the United States out of fear of persecution by the Taliban or retaliation for such cooperation with the United States. It is unsafe for political targets of the Taliban to be forced to return against their will. TPS protections must be maintained for Afghan nationals in the United States,” the lawmakers concluded.

In the last year alone over 126,000 visas have been issued to nationals from just the twelve countries on the fully restricted list. June 27, 2025

“President Trump’s actions once again disgrace the founding principles of our nation and enshrine cruelty into our immigration system,” the Members continue. “Additionally, this travel ban will harm our economy by depriving the United States of workers in key fields experiencing labor shortages like medicine and agriculture and further devastating our domestic tourism industry which is already expected to decline by $12.5 billion in 2025.”

Rep. Cisneros and Vice Chair Lieu Bash Marine Detention, Demand Answers
June 17, 2025

Today, Rep. Gil Cisneros (CA-31) and House Democratic Caucus Vice Chair Ted W. Lieu (CA- 36) led 34 House Democrats to condemn the reports that U.S. Marines detained a U.S. citizen and veteran last Saturday.

“As Members of Congress, we take an oath to defend the Constitution — the same oath that you and every service member has taken…” the letter reads. “The use of our military service members in this situation, who have sacrificed so much to defend our country, is sickening and disrespectful. The Constitutional rights to free speech and peaceful assembly are hallmarks of our democracy. We must be united in protecting these rights.”

Bay Area Congressional Delegation Statement on CBP Activities at SFO
June 12, 2025

“The Trump Administration’s approach to immigration has been utterly chaotic, inhumane, and disruptive to communities across the nation. Last night’s detainment of two Palestinian travelers who flew into SFO with valid visas is yet another example of Trump’s needlessly cruel actions. These visitors arrived here at the invitation of Bay Area interfaith community leaders. They traveled all the way from the West Bank to share their stories and work toward peace.

We call upon Customs and Border Protection to immediately respond to Congressional inquiries and provide the justification behind these individuals’ continued detainment and threatened deportation scheduled for later this afternoon. By inexplicably revoking visas, Trump’s CBP is discrediting America’s reputation abroad and breeding further distrust of our immigration system.”

Rep. Gomez, Sen. Schiff, Rep. Barragán Lead Bicameral Effort Demanding President Trump Withdraw National Guard and Marines from LA
June 10, 2025

"Representatives Jimmy Gomez (CA-34), Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA), Representative Nanette Barragán (CA-44), and 39 other California Delegation Representatives are demanding President Doanld Trump immediately withdraw the National Guard and U.S. Marines from Los Angeles, California. In a bicameral letter sent today, the lawmakers condemn the deployments as an unlawful overreach that bypassed state and local authority and urge the immediate withdrawal of the National Guard and Marines.

“We are writing to express grave concern regarding the deployment of the National Guard and the activation of 700 Marines to Los Angeles. These actions were taken without the consent of California Governor Gavin Newsom and over the objections of local law enforcement. It constitutes a clear violation of constitutional principles and law, and a grave overreach of executive authority,” wrote the lawmakers.

Rep. Jimmy Gomez Leads Colleagues In Taking Bipartisan Action To Protect Immigrant Youth from Abuse & Neglect
June 5, 2025

"Today, Reps. Jimmy Gomez (CA-34) and his colleagues are demanding answers from the Trump administration over a disturbing shift in immigration policy that’s leaving abused and abandoned immigrant youth without basic protections. At the same time, Representatives Gomez, Zoe Lofgren (CA-18), Adriano Espaillat (NY-13), and 35 other lawmakers are working to pass their bipartisan Protect Vulnerable Immigrant Youth Act, a bill that would exempt Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) recipients from green card backlogs and ensure faster, permanent protection for eligible children. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto is leading the companion effort in the Senate.

In a letter to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem and USCIS Acting Director Kika Scott, the lawmakers raised concerns that USCIS has stopped granting deferred action to youth approved for SIJS — a humanitarian program for children who have survived abuse, abandonment, or neglect. “Without deferred action, youth who have survived abuse, abandonment, or neglect are being forced again to confront years of legal limbo during which they will be unable to support themselves, and will remain at higher risk of exploitation, abuse, and deportation,” wrote the lawmakers."

Jayapal Leads Dozens of Members in Demanding Reversal After Trump’s First 100 Days of Cruel and Unconstitutional Immigration Actions
May 7, 2025

“You have repeatedly told the American people that you are focusing your immigration enforcement on the ‘worst of the worst. ’ Unfortunately, it has become apparent that you have completely misled the American people, instead sweeping up large numbers of people indiscriminately, including U.S. citizens and those with lawful status,” wrote the Members. “At the same time, your Administration’s actions have deliberately eroded, evaded, and obfuscated the foundational democratic norms enshrined in our Constitution, including due process, freedom of expression, and separation of powers.

Congressman Glenn Ivey Leads House Colleagues in Demanding Return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia
April 21, 2025

Today, Congressman Glenn Ivey (MD-04) sent a letter to President Donald Trump demanding the immediate return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was wrongfully deported to El Salvador, to the United States, despite having been granted protection from deportation by a United States immigration court. Despite the Trump Administration admitting Mr. Abrego Garcia’s removal was a mistake and the Supreme Court ordering the facilitation of his return, the Trump Administration has indicated repeatedly it does not intend to comply with the Supreme Court’s order and bring Mr. Abrego Garcia back to the United States. Mr. Abrego Garcia is a Maryland resident, living in Maryland’s Fourth Congressional District with his U.S. citizen wife and family.
