Today, Congressman Glenn Ivey (MD-04) sent a letter to President Donald Trump demanding the immediate return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was wrongfully deported to El Salvador, to the United States, despite having been granted protection from deportation by a United States immigration court. Despite the Trump Administration admitting Mr. Abrego Garcia’s removal was a mistake and the Supreme Court ordering the facilitation of his return, the Trump Administration has indicated repeatedly it does not intend to comply with the Supreme Court’s order and bring Mr. Abrego Garcia back to the United States. Mr. Abrego Garcia is a Maryland resident, living in Maryland’s Fourth Congressional District with his U.S. citizen wife and family.

Frederica Wilson“Yesterday, the Trump Administration admitted that it abducted and unlawfully deported Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, a Marylander, the husband of a U.S. citizen, and the father of a U.S. citizen child with disabilities. He had just picked up his son, who has autism, when Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained him. The Trump Administration sent him to a notorious mega-prison in El Salvador without a hearing or any semblance of due process. The Administration has produced no viable evidence that he was a member of any gang and admitted his detention and removal were an ‘error.’

Regrettably, this legislation harms survivors of domestic violence, which is why more than 210 local and national organizations that serve and work with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault oppose this legislation."
