“No one knows the border better than the Members who represent it and live in these communities,” said Vasquez. “DHS was just handed a massive blank check, and we owe it to American taxpayers to provide accountability and transparency. Secretary Noem must explain to the American people how this massive spending will be used and justify every dollar that is spent.”
“Our border communities deserve real solutions that keep them safe and strengthen trust,” said Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz (CA-25). “Instead of a $150 billion blank check, we need transparency, oversight, and targeted investments that fight illegal activity, support our agents, and prevent waste and abuse of taxpayer dollars.”
“Taxpayer dollars need to be spent responsibly and transparently – for Homeland Security, that means stopping drugs from crossing the border, making the most of advanced technology, and holding violent criminals accountable,” said Congresswoman Kristen McDonald Rivet (MI-08). “When we spend $150 billion of their dollars on such important priorities, our constituents need to know that their money is being spent effectively and efficiently.”
Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet, Rep. Raul Ruiz, Rep. Gabe Vasquez“Our immigration system is broken and not working for anybody. While both parties seek to demonize and use the issue as a political football, I share the priorities of the vast majority of Americans: stop illegal border crossings and deport undocumented immigrants who commit violent crimes, modernize and fix our legal immigration system, and fund law enforcement to do their jobs while making sure they follow our constitution."
“Yesterday, I voted for the Stop Illegal Entry Act, because there needs to be strict consequences for undocumented people who repeatedly cross the border illegally, especially those who commit violent felonies."
Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet“We have been concerned by recent statements and actions undertaken by DHS that seem to indicate that the Department is unlawfully using race as a basis for conducting immigration enforcement operations,” wrote the lawmakers. “A strategy of immigration enforcement that singles out law-abiding people solely because of their race is at odds with our constitution’s commitment to both equality and freedom from unreasonable searches.”
