“I applaud President Trump, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, and Border Czar Tom Homan. They’ve made a significant difference to the safety and security of the American people. Illegal crossings have dropped 94 percent on their watch. Before, under Joe Biden’s open border policies, 7,000 illegal immigrants crossed our borders every day. Now, under President Trump, it is 7,000 a month.
“Immigration and Customs Enforcement reports there were over 100,000 deportations in 80 days. We’ve seen more ICE arrests of illegal immigrant criminals in 100 days under President Trump than we saw in all of 2024 under Joe Biden. The message is now clear: If you threaten our communities, you’re out. That is progress. That is promises kept.
“Republicans in Congress passed the Laken Riley Act. President Trump signed it into law in January. It is the first serious immigration enforcement law in decades. It honors the memory of Laken Riley, a young nursing student who was murdered by an illegal immigrant in Georgia. It also honors the memory of Sarah Root. Sarah was a young woman from Iowa. She was killed by an illegal alien drunk driver. Senator Joni Ernst of Iowa championed Sarah’s cause for years. The Laken Riley Act mandates illegal immigrants who break our laws be detained.
“Republicans in Congress are committed to protecting American families. That is why we continue to work with President Trump to get Border Patrol agents the tools they need. Our agenda puts us on a path to finish the wall. It will boost Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement staffing. It will build more detention space for lawbreakers. Think about who these lawbreakers are. They are the people who felt invited into our country by Joe Biden and the Democrats with free medical care, free food, free housing, and free plane tickets. Those days are over. That is how we keep communities safe.
Sen. John Barrasso“President Trump and Republicans are determined to stop the surge at our borders – both north and south. This is a life-or-death issue.”
Sen. John Barrasso"U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), Roger Wicker (R-MS), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), and John Barrasso (R-WY) introduced the Protect Medicaid Act to ensure the long-term integrity of Medicaid by preventing liberal states like California from forcing American citizens in other states to subsidize Medicaid benefits for illegal immigrants. The bill prohibits federal money from being spent on administering state Medicaid benefits paid for by American citizens to noncitizens. If a state chooses to give Medicaid benefits to illegal residents, the bill ensures that state does so entirely on its own dime, without any costs to taxpayers in other states. U.S. Representative Richard Hudson (R-NC-09) introduced the companion legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives."
Sen. John Barrasso, Sen. Bill Cassidy, Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith, Sen. Roger Wicker"The Laken Riley Act is the bipartisan, life-saving bill that will lock up criminal illegal immigrants and then deport them. Republicans are offering targeted amendments to make this bill even stronger.”
Sen. John BarrassoU.S. Senators Jim Risch (R-Idaho) and John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) introduced legislation requiring unused COVID-19 funds to be used to finish building the wall along the southern border.
“The Biden administration foolishly halted the progress on the border wall begun under President Trump, leaving states and local communities to deal with the resulting crisis. A completed border wall would have prevented the disastrous flood of illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and criminal activity every state has experienced over the last four years,” said Risch. “The Build the Wall Act is a commonsense approach to securing our southern border, restoring order to our immigration system, and enhancing our national security.”
“Before the Biden administration’s disastrous border policies, we were well on our way to a secure and safe southern border. Now, every state is a border state and dangerous criminals and cartels are entering our communities,” said Barrasso. “This bill will allow us to use money we already have to finish the wall and protect our national security. Border walls work. Securing the border is a top priority for Senate Republicans and President Trump.”
Sen. John Barrasso, Sen. James Lankford, Sen. Cynthia Lummis, Sen. Roger Marshall, Sen. Jim Risch“The Laken Riley Act presents the Senate a simple choice: Are you willing to allow illegal immigrant criminals to roam free in our country? Or do you want to save American lives?”
Sen. John BarrassoU.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today announced the introduction of her first bill of the 119th Congress, the Laken Riley Act. This legislation was originally introduced in the House of Representatives by Congressman Mike Collins (R-Ga.).

He discussed how their open-border policies have allowed a violent Venezuelan gang – known as Tren de Aragua – to terrorize communities across the country. Senator Barrasso highlighted how one suspected gang member was recently imprisoned in Laramie County, Wyoming."
