The One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) has passed!

IAP began working with House Leadership well over a year ago in preparation for this budget reconciliation bill. In fact, our first meeting was in March of 2024! Many of the provisions we asked for were included in the final bill; some were not; and some were watered down along the way. Overall, though, the OBBB represents an historical investment in immigration enforcement and border security. It will allow President Trump to keep his campaign promise of mass deportations by funding 10,000 additional Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and 100,000 detention beds. It also includes more than $46 billion to build the wall, which will hamper a future administration that wants to dismantle border security like the Biden Administration did. On immigration, the OBBB:

  • Fully funds our border security and interior enforcement efforts;
  • Establishes immigration fees to raise revenue and discourage fraud and abuse;
  • Further restricts illegal alien access to taxpayer benefits; and
  • Places a 1% tax on cash and wire remittance transfers made by noncitizens from the United States to foreign countries.

Next Week

Both Chambers of Congress were scheduled to be in town next week, but the House has announced it will be taking the week off after coming in on what was supposed to be a recess week to pass the One Big Beautiful Bill. We anticipate the Senate will continue processing nominations.

Our team at IAP hopes you have a safe and happy Independence Day, as we celebrate 249 years of American freedom!
