For the past two weeks, the Immigration Accountability Project has joined Tea Party Patriots on its nationwide bus tour to demand passage of legislation that would require proof of citizenship to register to vote.
The SAVE Act, introduced by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) in the House and Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) in the Senate, would also require states to establish a program to remove noncitizens from their voter rolls. The House approved the SAVE Act earlier this year, but the Senate has yet to bring it to the floor for the vote.
On Monday, we were on the steps of the Louisiana State Capitol in Baton Rouge, joined by several members of the Louisiana State Freedom Caucus. The bus tour then made its way through the Southeast with stops in Montgomery, AL, Atlanta, GA, Greenville, SC, and Raleigh, NC. It heads to the Rust Belt over Labor Day weekend where it will begin its last stretch with a final stop on September 10 in Washington, DC.
IAP’s co-founder and Director of Policy Rosemary Jenks will join the tour next Thursday in Cranberry, PA. Here’s a list of scheduled stops for next week (all times are local):

Trump ignites conservative backlash after opening door to 600,000 Chinese students: 'What is this madness?'
Early this week, President Trump made a comment to the press suggesting that he was looking to bring in 600,000 Chinese students, which would represent a significant increase over the normal yearly levels of students coming from China. That comment led to a firestorm on X in opposition, as well as a viral clip of Fox News host Laura Ingraham challenging Secretary Lutnik over the policy. After standing by his statement the next day at a cabinet meeting, the White House has since clarified to Fox News that the President was making reference to two years worth of students, representing a “continuation of existing policy.” The incident has renewed interest in West Virginia Rep. Riley Moore’s Stop CCP VISAs Act of 2025, which would cut off student visas to China.
Biden migrants linked to New York crime surge, study shows
A new study out of the Charles University in Prague found that crime rates increased over the last four years in areas around places where illegal aliens were provided housing. The study is fairly limited, but it provides some data to back up that surges in illegal immigration can come with surges in crime.
Trump administration moves to tighten duration of visas for students and media
US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced it is placing time limits on the notoriously abused student visas, exchange visas, and visas for the media. Foreign students have been able to take advantage of vague “duration of status” visas, effectively allowing them to stay in the U.S. indefinitely without further screening or vetting. This is an incredibly positive development, and combined with another announcement this week that USCIS would be resuming neighborhood checks to vet individuals who are applying to become citizens, shows that Director Edlow is laser-focused on restoring the integrity of our immigration system.
The House and Senate will return after a long August recess following Labor Day. All eyes on Capitol Hill will be on the approaching September 30th deadline, when Congress will need to fund the government.
