Only Citizens Vote Bus Tour hits 7 cities in 5 days

I was honored to join the Tea Party Patriots and the Only Citizens Vote Bus Tour this week as it makes its way across the country, demanding that Congress pass the SAVE Act to ensure that only U.S. citizens can register to vote.

The week started with an enthusiastic group of supporters in Southern California and finished with a stop in San Antonio, Texas where Rep. Chip Roy, the lead sponsor of the SAVE Act in the House of Representatives, joined us. Along the way, we met hundreds of supporters on stops in Redlands, CA, Las Vegas, NV, Scottsdale and Tucson, AZ, and Las Cruces, NM. At each stop, we were joined by local leaders and activists who shared our goal of seeing the SAVE Act signed into law to protect future elections.

The bus tour is scheduled to hit five more cities next week as it makes its way across the Southeast and eventually to Washington, DC. Here’s a list of next week’s events (all event times are local):

RSC Briefing on Reconciliation 2.0

It may be summer recess for Congress, but there’s still a lot happening on Capitol Hill in Washington. This week, IAP’s Director of Government Relations, Grant Newman, joined Mark Krikorian from the Center for Immigration Studies and Joe Chatham from the Federation for American Immigration Reform to brief the staff of the House Republican Study Committee on what lawmakers can include in a second budget reconciliation package on immigration policy. While the One Big Beautiful Bill Act provided the funding ICE and CBP needed, there is still room for improvement, such as cutting off more public benefits for illegal aliens and closing loopholes on the remittance tax.

The Republican Study Committee is the largest conservative caucus in Congress, with nearly 200 of the 219 Republican Members in the House.

Immigration Articles

Deportations Reach New High After Summer Surge in Immigration Arrests
The New York Times published an excellent article this week, featuring infographics that highlight the dramatic rise in ICE arrests, detentions, and deportations over the past seven months, and how these figures compare to previous administrations. While the entire article is worth reading, what stood out to us was how it debunks the popular “Deporter-in-Chief” narrative about the Obama administration, which we have also discussed.

Illegal immigrant trucker accused of killing three people failed English, road sign tests: DOT
The country was shocked this week when a video surfaced showing a truck driver making an illegal U-turn in the middle of the Florida Turnpike and killing three innocent people. It was later revealed that he entered the country illegally in 2018, was rejected for work authorization in 2020 by the Trump administration, was later approved by the Biden administration, and was issued a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) in California. After the crash, he was interviewed and could only answer two of the twelve verbal questions in English and identify one of the four traffic signs shown to him. The reaction was swift. ICE lodged a detainer against the driver, arrested his brother, and Secretary Rubio paused the issuance of employment visas for truck drivers. But Secretary Rubio wasn’t done yet-

Trump administration is reviewing all 55 million foreigners with US visas for any violations
It was another major week at the State Department. Secretary Rubio announced that his Department would review 55 million valid visas for violations that could result in deportation or visa revocation. It’s important to note that not all of these visa holders are currently in the U.S., but this is a key step to restore integrity to the visa system, which was systematically abused for four years. According to Fox News, the State Department has already revoked 6,000 visas due to arrests for various criminal acts and support for terrorism.

Rep. Roy Introduces Bill to Crack Down on Sanctuary Jurisdictions
Lastly, this week, Congressman Chip Roy (R, TX-21) introduced the Sanctuary Penalty and Public Protection Act of 2025 (H.R. 5005). Here’s what we had to say about it-

"Sanctuary jurisdictions have obstructed immigration law enforcement for too long. In the worst sanctuaries, they ignore requests from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and repeatedly release criminal aliens onto American streets, where they often offend again. As a result, ICE is forced to allocate significant resources to locate and apprehend them. Congressman Roy's Sanctuary Penalty Public Protection Act would expose the jurisdictions endangering their communities and cut federal funding if they insist on standing in the way of immigration enforcement. The Immigration Accountability Project is proud to support this effort."

Next Week

The House and Senate are still on recess until September 2nd.
