Could a border surge be on the horizon?

The Department of Homeland Security released September's apprehension numbers this week, and the report showed another drop in overall encounters and illegal border crossings. However, as the Center for Immigration Studies' Todd Bensman reports, Mexico has played a signifcant role in reducing illegal border crossings, and there could be a flood of illegal border crossings after Election Day.

DHS encountered 144,666 inadmissible aliens last month. While it's the lowest level since early 2021, it's still significantly higher than historical norms. The number of border arrests was 55,993 -- the lowest level under the Biden-Harris Administration. But encounters of illegal aliens at ports of entry remained high, as migrants continued to utilize the administration's abusive parole programs, including the CBP One app and CHNV program. The total number of encounters in September was 88,673--more than 4 times the number from Pres. Biden's first month in office.

Encounters Chart

As Bensman reports, the lower numbers are due to a deal struck between the United States and Mexico late last year. Under the agreement, Mexico placed 32,500 troops along the U.S.-Mexico border to deter illegal border crossings. Instead, tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of would-be illegal border crossers are being held in the southern provinces of Mexico.

Since few details of the deal between the United States and Mexico have been made public, no one knows when it'll end. But it could end after the election on Nov. 5, which could lead to a massive border surge after the election.

DHS approved Tren de Aragua gang members as refugees

An internal email from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) reveals that the Federal government approved for refugee status "several" individuals with Tren de Aragua gang tattoos. Fortunately, Customs and Border Protection stopped them at the border. IAP's own Rosemary Jenks commented: "This is one of the most absurd things I've seen," she said. "We have a real problem with importing gangs here. That got a whole lot worse over the last 3.5 years. This is a stunning national security failure."

Our friends at the American Accountability Foundation dropped a bombshell report this week on 32 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials who are behind the border and immigration crisis. Highlighted in this Fox News article is Wilson Osorio, Associate Counsel at USCIS, who actually promoted illegal immigration on his social media accounts.

This week, Maryann Martinez, the Texas Bureau Chief for the Daily Mail, published this extensive report on how the violent Tren de Aragua gang used the border crisis to infiltrate the United States.

While a lot of attention has been paid to the efforts by the Biden Administration to give executive amnesties through parole and Temporary Protected Status, the House Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement released a report explaining how the Administration has used immigration courts to allow roughly one million illegal aliens to remain in the country.

Our friend Todd Bensman at the Center for Immigration Studies writes in the New York Post about how Mexico's enforcement efforts have reduced the border crisis and forecasts a potential flood of new migrants who could overwhelm the border in the coming months.

In an interesting development from across the Northern border, Canada's liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced a significant reduction in legal immigration for the next two years. Trudeau had increased immigration in 2022, but now admits he 'didn’t get the balance quite right." He added- "This is temporary — to pause our population growth and let our economy catch up, " Trudeau said Thursday. "We have to get the system working right for all Canadians."
