It may be summer recess for Congress, but there’s still a lot happening on Capitol Hill in Washington.

On August 21st, IAP’s Director of Government Relations, Grant Newman, joined Mark Krikorian from the Center for Immigration Studies and Joe Chatham from the Federation for American Immigration Reform to brief the staff of the House Republican Study Committee on what lawmakers can include in a second budget reconciliation package on immigration policy.

While the One Big Beautiful Bill Act provided the funding ICE and CBP needed, there is still room for improvement, such as cutting off more public benefits for illegal aliens and closing loopholes on the remittance tax.

The Republican Study Committee is the largest conservative caucus in Congress, with nearly 200 of the 219 Republican Members in the House.
