Sanctuary City Elimination Act

This bill-

  • Substitutes the federal government as the defendant in civil suits against state and local law enforcement officers arising from their compliance with ICE detainers, effectively transferring civil liability away from local agencies;
  • Defines a "sanctuary jurisdiction" as any state or political subdivision that restricts the sharing of immigration status information or prohibits compliance with ICE detainers;
  • Renders sanctuary jurisdictions ineligible for specified federal funding streams, including certain education, arts, environmental, and economic development grants; and
  • Grants a state Attorney General legal standing to sue an out-of-state sanctuary jurisdiction to compel the withholding of its federal funds if that jurisdiction releases an illegal alien who subsequently commits a crime in the Attorney General's state.
