Dignity for Detained Immigrants Act

This bill:

  • Ends government authority to contract with private prisons for detention of aliens.
  • Creates a rebuttable presumption of release for aliens in custody.
  • Requires that aliens be placed in the least restrictive form of custody likely to ensure appearance to future proceedings.
  • Makes certain categories of aliens ineligible for detention like aliens under 21 or older than 60, pregnant women, and aliens with a serious illness. 
  • Repeals mandatory detention provisions.
