Uniform Standards for Federal Law Enforcement Act of 2026

This bill creates a uniform standard for Federal law enforcement, which mirrors existing Department of Justice policy. It restricts federal law enforcement and immigration officers from using deadly force unless there is a reasonable belief it is necessary to prevent imminent death or serious bodily injury to the officer or another person. It specifically prohibits the use of deadly force solely to prevent a suspect from escaping, to disable a moving vehicle, or to stop an individual who only poses a threat to themselves or property. Furthermore, the legislation requires officers to give verbal warnings when safe and practicable, bans warning shots outside of federal prisons, and mandates new training on alternative tactics for situations where deadly force is prohibited.
