Grant’s Law

This bill mandates the detention of illegal aliens charged with crimes that, if they were convicted, would result in inadmissibility or deportability. DHS would be allowed to transfer custody to other law enforcement but is required to resume custody if the alien is released pending final disposition. If the alien is not convicted, DHS is required to maintain custody until removal proceedings are complete. Finally, the bill calls for expedited removal proceedings for aliens arrested for a deportable offense.
