Protecting America's Roads Act

This bill amends U.S. law to tighten requirements for commercial driver's licenses (CDLs). It would mandate that all applicants prove they are a U.S. citizen, a lawful permanent resident, or have valid work authorization. It also requires applicants to prove they are domiciled in the state issuing the license and compels states to use the federal SAVE system to verify the lawful presence of any non-citizen applicant. The bill also sets new, shorter expiration dates for CDLs issued to non-citizens and directs the termination of reciprocity agreements that recognize foreign CDLs.
