Witness Assistance and Criminal Accountability Act

This bill establishes a new W nonimmigrant visa, capped at 10,000 per year, for witnesses who are willing to provide or have provided critical reliable information regarding certain serious crimes.

The visa is valid for 4 years (with possible extensions), and accompanying spouses and minor children (or parents in the case of minor children recipients) do not count towards the cap.

W visa recipients are allowed to adjust to a green card if they reside in the U.S. for at least three years and if "the alien's continued presence in the United States is justified for law enforcement purposes, on humanitarian grounds, or to ensure family unity, or is otherwise in the public interest."
